Doing a My Child Makeover

Doing a nose job

Doing a nose job!

If you are lucky to have

spare fabric

you can try this and

re-cover her nose.

Take your time,

it can be a tuff job.

Use some pliers to pull off the fabric, trying to get all the fabric even from under the nose. This is a tug and pull job. Cut a nice round piece of fabric. Measure it by sitting it on top of the nose seeing that there is enough to tuck under the nose, but not too much that it will be bulky! Push under the nose using something flat with no sharp edge so the fabric doesn't get damaged. I use my thumb nail, but you could try a hair clip, nail file etc.
The three photos above show what the nose looks like out of the doll.

Cleaning a dirty doll!

Above before photos, below finished photos.

To Clean up a doll to look like new again

follow the instructions below.

You will need:

1. Napisan (OxyAction Max) the pink container

2. Exit soap ( a yellow soap ) If you can not get this let me know I can get some for you.

I purchase it from Australia from their Mitre 10 store!

3. Soft toothbrush ( I just use and old tooth brush, never throw them out! Great for all sorts of

things )

4. Lots of towels

5. Good conditioner (I use Pantene PRO-V for Smooth and sleek hair)

6. Comb (A metal comb is best, but a plastic comb is fine to use on wet hair)

FaberCastell water colour pencils for redoing the makeup if it needs it.

Time go get things ready.

You will need the right size bucket or tub to soak the doll or dolls in.

You can soak and wash as many doll as you wish at one time.

As you can see by my picture I am washing 3 dolls together!

So I looked around the house for something that would hold three dolls with plenty of room.

You don’t want to squash the dolls into a bucket that is too small as when the heads are

warm they can be pushed out of shape! So plenty of room around each doll it needed.

What to do for her BODY

1. Fill a bucket or Tub with warm/hot water and put a lid or two of Napisan in the water. Make sure it is fully dissolved and then put the whole doll/dolls in. You will need to hold them under for a while so that all the air escapes. I put the clothes in and soak them to.

2. Let them soak there for about 30 minutes. Get the tooth brush and rub it over the dirty spots. The rubbing with the tooth brush also de-pills the dolls! Once you have giving the doll a good rub over with the tooth brush put her back into the water to soak for another 30 minutes. Repeat the rubbing with the tooth brush again. Then leave soaking for up to 2 hours… rinse off and see if all the marks are removed.

If the dolls look all clean you can move onto step 4 and miss out on step 3.. If there are still dirty marks on the doll follow step 3 how to remove stubborn stains.

3 To get those stubborn stains out, use the yellow exit soap. While the doll is wet and soaking. Wet the soap and then rub on the dirty marks, now get your tooth brush and rub round in cycles right and then left, rinse off and repeat until the mark has gone or almost gone! Do this to each stubborn mark.

The odd mark might take two or three tries. Some marks don't move even after this process but the good news is, if you leave the doll in the sun to dry that often does the rest of the work for you! Another option is to spray Exit mold on the dirty areas, leave for 20 seconds and then rub with the tooth brush going round in cycles right and then left, rinse off! Repeat again if the mark is still there. Exit mold is a very strong product so use very carefully! Once you have used either the yellow soap or exit mold soak the doll for about another 30 minutes. If you think the bucket of water is too dirty now, make up clean bucket and soak in that! I prefer to do this last soak in a clean bucket of Napisan water, just for that extra clean and nice fresh smell!
4. After the soak -

Get as much moisture out of the hair and body as you can by leaving her to drain in the tub for an hour or two, then use towels, and then you can sit her in a warm place in the house to dry which can take about 1 - 2 days depending on your climate. I always sit my dolls on towels outside in the sun even if it isn’t a hot day so the sun can do some more work for me getting rid of any little spots that didn’t come out with the washing process.

Don’t put in front of the fire or heater. That will damage the eyes, face and hair!

After my dolls have sat for about an hour, most of the water is out of the body but the doll is still very wet and so is the hair. For me this is the best time to work on the hair!

5. Washing the hair is always done at my kitchen sink as I have a large sink and a small one beside it...I wrap one doll up in a towel covering the body not the head, as if you are going to wash the hair like a new baby. I fill the small sink with hot water and sit the doll in the larger sink......I then lather her hair with conditioner and start combing the tangles out by combing from the tips/ends up. This can take from 5 minutes to 3 hours depending on the mess of her hair so give yourself ample time with no distractions. I find the kitchen is a great place to spend this time.

6. Once you can comb easily through the hair you can rinse the conditioner out and she is done. Leave to dry or you can use a hair dryer to finish her off - But - if she has the frizziest hair you will need to treat her hair before you wash the conditioner out.

Only do this if she has frizzy hair!!!(This may remove ringlets and curls)

1. Boil a jug and let it cool for about 5 - 10 minutes

2. Hold the My Child doll upside down in one hand and the kettle in the other and pour the slightly cooled boiling water down her hair with the conditioner still in there.

3. Follow with a cold water rinse and rinse all the conditioner out.

4. This process can be repeated until the frizz is improved. Some dolls take only one treatment, others, 5 +.

5. If you have done the boil treatment over and over and the hair is about as good as it is going to get but is still frizzy you can use a flat plate crimping iron on the hair when it is wet and this further improves it.

If you have any makeover tips

Below are two more dolls that have had make overs.

How about cleaning up a doll like this one below!!

One of the dirtiest dolls yet!

Every doll is worth working one!

Look at this sad doll.

She has pen marks all over, she has sparkle type glue on her face, and ladies makeup. Hair dose look to be cut, but once it has been conditioned & worked with ill decided weather to keep or cut off.

Her nose is around the wrong way.

Needs a real make over!

After a good clean,

and soaking, a brush with Exit mould.

She still have some marks on her face.

Next step is to remove whats left on her face. This look to be some kind of glue!

I did my best

to try and remove what looked like glue! Sadly the glue has left a mark on her face that I just can not remove no matter what I try.

Her nose is now around the right way.

She will be turned in to a fairy. Her new look as a fairy will be in my OOAK folder when she is finished.
